For over 175 years, the Shor family has been at the heart of Israeli winemaking. It all began in 1848, when Rabbi Yitzhak Galina Shor established Israel’s first recorded winery near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. From the Ottoman Empire to the modern State of Israel, the Shor family has remained at the forefront of Israeli wine through generations of innovation.

In 2006, eighth-generation vintner Yossi Shor founded 1848 Winery to merge the family's historic legacy with modern craftsmanship. The winery focuses on handcrafted, small-batch wines, sourcing grapes from Israel’s top vineyards in Galilee, the Golan Heights, and the Judean Hills.

Led by French-trained winemaker Ilan Assouline, 1848 Winery blends Old World tradition with cutting-edge technology, producing wines that express both varietal typicity and regional terroir. With numerous international awards and global recognition, 1848 Winery stands as one of Israel’s most respected craft wineries.
